Early Childhood Education $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Early childhood education regards education in early childhood, one of the most vulnerable stages in life. According to the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), it spans the human life from birth to age eight. Early childhood education often focuses on children learning through play. The terms preschool education and kindergarten emphasise education around the ages of 36 years. The terms early childhood learning, early care, and early education are comparable with early childhood education. The terms Day care and Childcare do not embrace the educational aspects. Many childcare centers are now using more educational approaches. They are creating curricula and incorporating it into their daily rountines to foster greater educational learning. Researchers in the field and early childhood educators both view the parents as an integral part of the early childhood education process. Early childhood education takes many forms depending on the beliefs of the educator or parent. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. The Epistemology of Early Childhood Education $154.53 The Epistemology of Early Childhood Education refers to the educational beliefs constructed, reconstructed and justified within the social field of early childhood education. Torill Strand here reports and discusses results from a theoretical and empirical study on the social production and justification of educational beliefs within the Norwegian programs of preschool teacher training. Research methods contain critical discourse analysis and the material reading lists and interviews with selected authors of the literature. Strand here holds that knowledge is embedded in social relations. In exploring these relations she leans on the sociocultural theory of Pierre Bourdieu and the philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce. As Strands ambition is to debunk the passive spectator view of knowledge, the epistemic self reflection is here a leitmotif. In going beyond doxa and episteme, Strand rejects the possibility of establishing clearcut demarcations between knowledge and society; between research based knowledge and everyday knowledge; between the object and the subject of knowledge. Bring God to the Negro, Bring the Negro to God $72.99 Archbishop Thomas Joseph Toolen was the Bishop of Mobile through some rather turbulent times for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mobile, Alabama. One of the most frequently occurring questions he had to deal with was the question of race. During the early decades of his episcopate, Toolen carried out his mission of saving the souls of Alabama’s African Americans by establishing separate missions, thereby expanding the South’s only truly biracial religion while also respecting societal norms crystallized in the Jim Crow laws of segregation. When the atmosphere was such that it was practical, Toolen acted quietly to integrate all levels of Catholic education which included Spring Hill College in 1954 and the parochial school system in 1964. As the Civil Rights Movement brought turbulence and violence to the State of Alabama, Toolen responded by condemning the activists’ methods, not their goals. This book is great for those who are interested in the Civil Rights Movement in America viewed from a different angle or anyone interested in the American South, the American Catholic Church, or race relations in the United States. |

They Say: Ida B. Wells and the Reconstruction of Race $2.08 In ‘They Say,’ James West Davidson recounts the first thirty years in the passionate life of Ida B. Wells–as well as the story of the great struggle over the meaning of race in post-emancipation America. Davidson captures the breathtaking and often chaotic changes that swept the South as Wells grew up in Holly Springs, Mississippi: the spread of education among free blacks, the rise of political activism, and the bitter struggles for equality in the face of entrenched social custom. When Wells came of age she moved to bustling Memphis, where her quest for personal fulfillment was thwarted as whites increasingly used race as a barrier to separate blacks from mainstream America. Davidson traces the crosscurrents of these cultural conflicts through Wells’s forceful personality, intertwining her struggle to define herself with her early courageous, and often audacious, behavior. When a conductor threw her off a train for refusing to sit in the segregated car, she sued the railroad–and won. When she protested conditions in segregated Memphis schools, she was fired–and took up journalism. And in 1892, when an explosive lynching rocked Memphis, Wells embarked fully on the career for which she is now remembered, as outspoken anti-lynching writer and lecturer.Period photographs from postcards, newspapers, and Wells’s own diary further engage readers in this dynamic story. Richly researched and deftly written, the book offers a gripping portrait of the young Ida B. Wells, who directly encountered and influenced the evolving significance of race in America. |

For example, while a case like Brown v. Board of Education is about an important idea–the equal protection of the law–at its heart it is the story of a little girl, Linda Brown, who wanted to go to a decent school near her home. The outcome is accessible and objective stories about the individuals–heroes and scoundrels–who fought their way to constitutional history. 100 American Making Constitutional History helps students understand the human side of the Supreme Court’s decisions from the early republic to the present. Each biographical profile, written by a constitutional scholar or legal analyst, includes a discussion about the Court decision and how the specific legal issues evolved into great constitutional questions and drama. It puts a face and history to major cases by reminding the reader that there are people behind them, seeking vindication of their individual liberties and civil rights. |

100 Days Of Love $7.71 Poetry/Romance/Adventure”These poems,” David Loye tells us, “are very personal, and ours is a very personal story, as all love stories are. But we live in a world so desperately in need of love to heal its ever greater wounds. “Indeed, in the lonely lives of all the Eleanor Rigbys (who at one time or another are all of us), it could be said that for many of us our greatest need is to find the hope that love can not only flower but, despite everything, persist, forever growing.”So begins the story one may glimpse behind the lines of these poems-the story of the turbulent, agonizing, humorous and joyful first 100 days of the discovery of one another and the wonders of a new life together so many of us are now experiencing, or may recall of our early and middle years.Continuing the surprise of the poems scattered within their earlier joint biography 3,000 Years of Love, we go further and deeper into the lives of Riane Eisler and David Loye.Author of the international best-seller The Chalice and the Blade and The Real Wealth of Nations, Eisler has been called “The New Renaissance Woman” and “One of the most important visionaries of our time.”Author of the award-winning The Healing of a Nation, now in his eighties Loye is publishing a startling array of 20 new books ranging across fields of interest from science, education, politics, and moral evolution to entertainment, humor, and love.”Into our lives come these times of the peak experience when for a while one’s own small world or the larger world embracing us suddenly opens up with a sense that maybe this time it might be forever,” Loye writes. So the story unfolds in this unique treasury of the greatest time in the lives of most of us in the past, present, and as long as the sun rises, sets, and “the moon in lonely glory gladdens the earth.” Cover painting by the noted American artist Barbara Schaefer. |

Excerpt: Avisa Relation oder Zeitung was one of the first news-periodicals in the world. It was published in Wolfenbüttel , Germany in 1609. The printer/publisher was Lucas Schulte. The first issue states that the news had been collected from various countries by January 15. It is presumed that the issue was printed on or about that date. Some books mention the Avisa as the world’s first newspaper . Before 2005 there was a dispute whether the Avisa or the Relation aller Fürnemmen und gedenckwürdigen Historien , which was printed in Strassburg by Johann Carolus , was first. It was believed that both started in 1609. New evidence found in 2005, however, suggests that the Relation started as early as 1605. There is also a differing view, which does not regard either of these two publications as newspapers in a formal sense. Authors like Stanley Morison make a distinction between newsbooks (weekly news publications in a quarto format) and later folio-sized newspapers.References (URLs online) See also (online edition) A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at The Comentarios Reales de los Incas is a book written by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega , the first mestizo writer of colonial Andean South America . The limits were expanded in 1997 and 2005, and a law repealing the amendment was enacted in October 2006. That law eliminates some of the restrictions and leaves others intact until 2014. In the early 1960s, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) determined that Love Field in Dallas and Greater Southwest International Airport in Fort Worth, Texas were unsuitable for expected future air traffic demands, and the FAA refused to provide continued federal funding for the municipal airports. The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) then ordered the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth to find a new site for a joint regional airport. The result was Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW International), which first opened to commercial air traffic in 1974.
